Privacy Policy
Effective October 23, 2026
In short: your budget is yours. We keep what you enter so you and the people you share it with can see it, and we use it for nothing else. HouseCrew Money has no ads, no analytics or tracking, never asks for your bank sign-in, and we never sell your data.
This policy covers HouseCrew Money, the budgeting app at money.housecrew.app and the HouseCrew Money app for Windows. "We" and "us" mean Kline Software, which makes HouseCrew Money.
What we collect
Your account
- Your email address and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash; we can't read them.
- Records of sign-ins kept by our sign-in provider, such as the time and the IP address they came from, to keep accounts secure.
Your budget
Everything you put into a budget, which may include:
- Accounts and their names, types, balances and low-balance alerts.
- Transactions: dates, amounts, descriptions, categories, splits, notes and tags.
- Budgets, categories, import rules and recurring transactions.
- Bank files you import (OFX, QFX, CSV or PDF statements). We keep the transactions read from them, the bank's original descriptions and transaction ids, and, so the next import can find the right account, the account number in an OFX file.
- Bank statements you reconcile against, and files you attach to transactions or statements, such as receipts, bills and statement PDFs.
- The budget's name, who belongs to it, and the email addresses you invite to it.
What we don't collect
- Your online banking user name or password. HouseCrew Money doesn't connect to your bank; you import files you've downloaded yourself.
- Analytics, advertising identifiers or tracking cookies.
- Your location, contacts or anything else on your device.
What's stored in your browser
The web app keeps your sign-in session and which budget you had open last in your browser's local storage, so you stay signed in. These are only used by HouseCrew Money and are cleared when you sign out or clear your browser's site data. We don't use cookies for tracking.
How we use it
- To run HouseCrew Money: show your budget, work out balances and reports, and keep it in sync for everyone you share it with.
- To send the emails the app needs: confirming your address and resetting your password. We don't send marketing email.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems.
We don't sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or use the contents of your budget to train AI models.
Who can see it
- People you share a budget with. Members of a budget see everything in it, including attachments, and each other's email addresses. Someone you invite sees the budget's name and who invited them before they accept.
- Service providers that run HouseCrew Money for us, only to
provide their service:
- Supabase stores your account, budgets and files, and handles signing in.
- Resend delivers the app's emails, such as confirming your address or resetting your password, and sees your email address and the email's contents to do so.
- Cloudflare hosts the web app and sees the requests your browser makes to load it, such as your IP address. When you sign in, create an account, try a sample budget, reset your password or delete your account, its Turnstile security check sees your IP address and details of your browser or the Windows app and how it's used, to tell people from automated sign-ups. It sets no tracking cookies, and we use only its pass or fail.
- When text in your budget uses characters the app's own fonts don't have, such as emoji or other alphabets, your browser downloads a font for them from Google (Google's privacy policy). Nothing else is loaded from Google.
- When the law requires it. We'll disclose information if we're legally required to, and will tell you first when we're allowed to.
Database rules keep each budget's data and files apart, so only its members can read or change them.
How we protect it
Everything is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and encrypted where it's stored. Access is limited to members of each budget by rules in the database itself, not just by the app. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don't use elsewhere.
Keeping and deleting your data
- We keep your data for as long as you have an account, until you delete it.
- Deleting transactions, attachments or other items removes them. Attachment files no longer used are moved to a trash folder and permanently deleted after 30 days.
- Deleting a budget (Settings, as its owner) permanently deletes everything in it, files included, for all of its members. Leaving a budget removes your access but leaves it in place for the others.
- To delete your account, use Delete account in Settings, under Your account. It deletes your sign-in and the budgets only you belong to, with their files, straight away. Budgets you share stay with their other members; if you were a budget's only owner, the member who joined first becomes its owner. You can also email us at the address below from the address you sign in with, and we'll do the same within 30 days.
- If you try a sample budget without an account, we keep no email address, only what you change in the sample and the sign-in records above. Unless you save it to an account, the sample and its sign-in are permanently deleted 7 days after you started it.
- Our providers' backups may hold deleted data for a short time afterwards until they are replaced.
Your choices and rights
You can see, change and delete your data in the app at any time, and export transactions and reports as CSV files, or download everything in a budget (Settings, Backups) as a zip of spreadsheet files and your attachments. You may also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by emailing us. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU and UK or the CCPA in California), you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict how we use your data, or to complain to a data protection authority. We'll respond within 30 days, and won't treat you differently for asking.
Your data is stored and processed in the United States or wherever our providers run their services.
The Windows app without an account
If you use the HouseCrew Money app for Windows without signing in, your budget, attachments and backups are kept only on your computer, in your Windows user profile, and nothing is sent to us. Backups you save go wherever you choose. If you later copy that budget into an online budget, it's covered by the rest of this policy from then on.
Children
HouseCrew Money isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use the data you've already given us, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
